this morning i taught 6 little girls how to play the flute. kind of.
its so strange how energetic they are- how hopeful. this little girl told me her mom always wanted one of her kids to be in band. she almost made me cry. did i do anything to make it happen- no. she did it for herself. she got there- she's trying. i just have to help make it happen.
40 minutes.
put the flute together. take it apart. be careful. put it back together. where do your hands go? where do you fingers go? take it apart. quick quick quick. no time. don't miss the bus. this is a d. pack up. see you friday.
practice. try. work.
what am i doing here?
should i be scared? friday we have all 29 members of the 5th grade band together. in one room. together. they are learning so much. they barely know what a measure is.
no doubt, it is cute. they hold on to their instruments with a grip like none other.
i ask, "are you excited to be in band?"
"yeeeeess!" they scream loudly in a hallway with a 800 feet tall ceiling.
let them scream. this isn't a prison.
don't run. walk. practice tonight, okay?
