last night i had my last high school concert for the year. we totally rocked! i was slightly panicked... i'm not going to lie, but it was amazing. the students really pulled it together and they sounded great. i think we actually created some great music. yay for dynamic contrast!!!!
i told my students before the concert that they should play well because my mom was there. they immediately wanted me to announce that she was present and introduce her to them in front of the entire audience. i said.... um, no. so, throughout the entire concert, in between each song, i heard "ms. teerink, where's your mom!?" in hushed whispers. i had to keep from laughing! they are hilarious! i told them, "she's over there--in the audience!... shhhh!" i'm so happy i get to work with funny people. anyway, after the concert they all met my mom in the band room.
anyway, last night made me realize that i'm not entirely bad at my job. the audience clapped a super long time and a board member introduced himself to me and told my mom that the district was happy to have me teach there. score!!! i most likely won't be fired! yay!
so, maybe next year won't be so bad after all. i have some confidence now and as they say... confidence is key.
i'm going out tonight to this little place called bob's bar. oh yes, it is very classy. i'm going to be a wallflower. i am not going to attract any attention. i am going to wear mute colors and i'm not going to dance. this is the game plan.
